Northamptonshire 1830 Pigot's Directory

One of the earliest directories, this one covers the whole of the county, with descriptions of all of the towns and main villages, churches, schools, etc. and a listing of people with trades. Everything from doctors to candle makers, dress makers working from home to chimney sweeps, butchers, bakers and bricklayers, etc.

The Post Office Directories were the fore-runners of (and published by) Kelly & Co. Directories. This excellent county directory comes with its original 1847 map of the county, that you can zoom in and in to the finest detail.

Northamptonshire 1890 Kelly's Directory

A comprehensive description of every town, village and hamlet in the county along with lists of private residents and commercial traders. The county town of Northampton also has a fabulous street by street directory of ordinary peopls, as well as those with trades. Using this wonderful resource you really can build up a picture of where and how your ancestors lived their daily lives. Also included is a Court Directory (an alphabetical list of private individuals in the county) and a classified Trades Directory which lists the types of trades and the names and adddresses of those who performed those occupations.
